Not really an Emotive Portrait....

This week I didn't get a emotive portrait instead I got a picture of best friends!

But it does look like they have the emotion of happiness!

Bob and Colin :)

PS - don't you just love Colin's shirt?!

Week #21 - Emotive Portrait

This week's challenge is: Emotive Portrait

As I was a little unsure what it meant, so I googled it and here is the definition that I found.

"Any portrait which captures, creates or evokes an emotional outpouring."

Sounds like a challenge for me :) I look forward to seeing your photos!

My try at Vintage

This week - I wasn't sure what to take pictures of, as I don't own anything that is vintage, so I went for a drive and found this old hotel building in downtown Red Deer....so I figured, why not?

(I changed my photos to black & white, to give them more of the "vintage" look :)

We are house sitting for some friends and I found this in their living room!
(looked pretty vintage to me!)

One more....

I forgot one! Well, in fact, I have many but this one is special. For my birthday last year, Tanya gave me a 1876 book of hymns written by John Wesley (brother to Charles). There is no music, so it is more like a book of poems. Small as the print is, I still do love reading them. There is a depth in their wording that we don't have these days.

Apparently, it was "for the use of the people called Methodists". The Methodist Church was founded on the Wesley brothers' teachings.

My book used to belong to a Joseph G. Parker! Nice calligraphy, Joseph...

Vintage

It was the only thing I could find! I have no idea when these were published, but I *think* it may have been in the 1930's.

Vintage loves...

This week I am just posting a couple of photos because some of my vintage pieces are too heavy for me to move to a good spot for photographs. I may post more as the week goes on but, for now, here are two of my favorite pieces:

First of all, a baby shoe that belonged to Floyd when he was a wee one - so we're talking circa 1936/37. I love it and it is so special to us as he has very few items from his childhood (unlike me, *blushes*). It came to us without laces, so they are not vintage:

Next, my old Singer treadle sewing machine. It is in its own cupboard that it can fold down in to but we leave it out for display. I don't know the era but I believe (after some internet searching) circa 1907:

Black & White Items - take 2

Well, I posted my pictures yesterday and this morning I was talking to Mum and she said she couldn't comment yesterday cause blogger was down. When she went to comment today my whole post was gone!!! Luckily I keep my photos in a folder, so here they are again....

Like Mum, instead of posting pictures in black and white, I found things around home that are black and white. (hope blogger doesn't delete this post again!)

My black hair straightener and hair dryer (with the white toilet in the back ground)

My work clothes: black pants and socks with a white shirt

I didn't think I owned any black clothes, but then I found I do own one black shirt
(the front of the shirt)

The back of the shirt
(yes, I'm pretty proud of myself for bungy jumping, that's why I bought the shirt!)

And last but not least, Bob's favorite hockey team is the Pittsburgh Penguins

Back In Black .....and white.

It's a two-for-one special! My favorite thing in black and white!

My glass fish collection - there used to be two. I guess it's not much of a "collection" now.

My kids picked me flowers on our hike this morning.

My dishes - love, love, love the shiny black!

My absolute favorite framed poster. Also Nathan's absolute least favorite. I told him I would get Marilyn Monroe to match, but it didn't help my case much.

Black and White It is!

So, I decided to take some photos of black-and-white objects around the house rather than take black-and-white photos... Here you go!

Firstly, fresh white milk in a bottle with black writing:

So, then I bent down (not too far, don't worry) to take a photo of the black window in our white microwave and, lo and behold, I saw the reflection of the kitchen in it! It does detract a bit from the black-and-whiteness of the photo, but I liked the result:

A remote with black buttons and white letters...

"These are a few of my favorite things..."

Well, there are so many things I could do for this week's challenge but I'm not too mobile and so I'm going to just settle with a few of my favorite things right now:

First of all, I was thrilled to see our daffodils and tulips coming up. Daffodils are my favorite flower and it's been a long time since I've lived somewhere where they actually come up every year!

Our sun room - I never get tired of looking at the room and the view of our garden. It is definitely one of my favorite places.

My walker with the towel grips that I tied on it so that it wouldn't hurt my palms so much. And, yes, yes, I have become a "bag lady" - ha ha. It is my way of "carrying" stuff around the house with me...
